TOWAMENCIN – In a difficult match for the North Penn Knights (4-6) they lost to Central Bucks West (8-5) with a 4-1.
The first half started rough with CB West scoring 2 goals within the first 9 minutes. The girls still worked hard to prevent goals and bring the ball closer to the home goal, especially with senior Lily McGee’s (#22) brisk hustle across the field.
“I think it was a tough game, West is a really good team. It definitely wasn’t one of our better games of the season but I did like the way we never gave up. We kept fighting back,” reflected Head Coach Michael Rio.
Despite losing their battle, the girls’ defense played well nonetheless. Between the two goalies, freshman Rachel Murphy and sophomore Julia Fiore’s saves, and junior Isabelle Rudnick’s (#33) refusal to give up on a play, the girls put up a good fight.
“We controlled some good pressure and attack. The girls never stopped working hard so I’m proud of them for giving up two goals and fighting the whole game and really trying to work their way back into it,” Rio said.
Within the last 10 minutes of the game, sophomore Paula Fernandez (#9) scored a goal, giving hope for redemption. But CB West stepped up their game to prevent the Knights from scoring more goals.
“I think [the goal] was a good finish by Paula; we just need to get more opportunities like that throughout the game,” Knights senior Captain Maddy Murphy shared.
With 5 more games to go, the Knights hope to pull out a few wins to end their season on a good note.
Their next game is on October 5th, away against Faith Christian Academy, with their anticipated senior night on October 14th against Souderton.
