Michael Jordan wore his UNC shorts under his uniform every game, and Serena Williams wore the same pair of socks during a winning streak. Mysterious superstitions, like these, are prevalent throughout professional sports and can often be a mental way of determining their success.
Preparing in superstitious ways can often drive athletes’ level of performance. But, this is not just the case with just the professionals. Many athletes who live and play within the North Penn School District are the same way.
1. Keira Sparango – “I have to put my left sock on before my right sock and my right cleat on before my left cleat. I also always eat peanut butter crackers before a game.”
2. Laura Albert – “Before every high school game I drink a light blue Gatorade.”
3. Katie Harkins – “I have to wear the same yellow hair tie in every high school lacrosse game and I have to wear my socks on opposite feet: so if it’s labeled right, it goes on my left foot and visa versa.”
4. Gardenia Mikhail – “I have to have my hair in either 2 or 3 braids that go into a ponytail.”
5. Jackie Diaz – “When I get ready, I put on my socks first, then my jersey, then my sliding shorts, then my pants and belt. I also have to sit in the same place on the bus and throw with the same person in the same spot.”
