TOWAMENCIN- “We have never beaten Souderton at a varsity level, so this was personal,” Kelly Donnelly stated.
The North Penn Knights girls’ basketball team (3-0) remained undefeated after a dominating 76-30 victory over the Souderton Indians on Tuesday night.
Donnelly was a force to be reckoned with in the game, tallying an impressive 28 points. Her standout performance was highlighted by a remarkable display in the third quarter, where she nailed a trio of three-pointers. Her hard work culminated in a rewarding night where her efforts translated into success.
“It felt so good to help the team because the last few years, I haven’t been an offensive threat, but I knew that with some of the seniors from last year leaving, I would have to fill in that position, so I worked hard, and it feels so good that tonight was the night my work paid off,” Donnelly said.
Donnelly’s confidence in her skills became evident and played a pivotal role in her performance, according to her coach.
“Kelly has come so far and has worked really hard in the offseason to become and strong shooter and this is the first night the her confidence stepped in,” head coach Bri Cullen stated.
The collective effort of individual efforts was also attributed to the success and high energy throughout the game.
“Honestly, I feel like it was a team game, not a me game. Our energy was so high the entire game, and anyone could have scored,”Donnelly stated.
During the first quarter, the Knights’ exceptional defense prevented Souderton from scoring until the two-minute mark. Meanwhile, they surged ahead offensively, ending the quarter up 17-6.
In the second quarter, the Knights displayed their defensive prowess again, holding Souderton to just four points. Meanwhile, they continued their impressive offensive performance, scoring 23 points with the help of Donnelly and Caleigh Sperling. They took a commanding 40-10 lead at halftime and set the tone for their dominance throughout the game.
“Our offense just came from how hard we were playing on defense, so it made scoring a lot easier when we were getting stops on the other end. When you have both sides of the ball moving, it makes it easier to get stops,” Cullen stated.
“They just moved the ball unselfishly and were playing unselfish basketball, which allowed us to score,” Cullen explained.
The Knights (3-0) take on Central Bucks South (2-1) at home Friday at 7 pm, looking to extend their win streak.
“I’m super proud of the performance from today, but Friday is a whole new team, and we have two days to prepare for it,” Cullen concluded.
