TOWAMENCIN- The Knights’ battle with the Cougars proved defensive, but the Knights fell short 2-1 to the Cougars in the end.
The Downingtown East Cougars (11-6) stuck down the North Penn Knights (13-3-1) Wednesday night on the turf field at North Penn High School.
With a defensive first quarter, the Knights held their ground firmly, but that didn’t stop the Cougars from scoring their first goal at the top of the second. With a plethora of opportunities in the 3rd due to corners, the Knights were unable to score a goal as Cougar’s goalkeeper Anna Powers was able to uphold the 1-0 lead. With a lot of confusion in the box, Courgar’s offense was allowed to slip another one in to give them a 2-0 buffer. The fourth quarter was filled with corners, 4 in a row at one point, but the Knights were still unable to score. With 3 seconds left in the fourth, the Knights were able to whiff one in, ending 2-1 Cougars.
“We made a lot of efforts with goals in the back of the cage but it just wasn’t there, no matter the outcome our attack was strong all year and Kylie (goalie) and defense did a good job at limiting goals, midfield did a good job transitioning the ball and the attackers killed it all season,” senior midfielder, Maddie Brown said.
The Knights played well this season ending with a 13-4-1 record.
“I’m really proud of how the field hockey team created a family culture, we played North Penn field hockey in every single game, even if our last game it didn’t go how we wanted, [overall] we played our best and we were very calm,” senior Captain Maddie Hanrahan reflected.
