Philadelphia – “Who’s it gonna be? Diamondbacks or Phillies, in Arlington to take on the Texas Rangers on Friday,” Phillies announcer Tom McCarthy questioned before Tuesday night’s tense game between the Philadelphia Phillies and the Arizona Diamondbacks, who were fiercely playing against each other to determine who gets to enter the World Series, beginning on Friday.
Unfortunately, an exciting night filled with hope and confidence turned into a disappointing loss, as the Phillies lost 4-2, as the Diamondbacks won and advanced into the World Series.
Christian Walker scored a run for the Diamondbacks in the first inning, after which a short lead by the Phillies followed, with them scoring runs in the second and fourth innings. Things were looking hopeful for the Phillies, as the odds were with them, and their team record was looking promising, however in the fifth inning the Diamondbacks scored two runs, turning the game in their favor and ultimately winning against the Phillies, scoring one more run in the seventh inning.
This will be the second time the Diamondbacks have entered the World Series, last time being in 2001, where they won against the Seattle Mariners, beating them with a score of 4-1.
As fans in Arizona cheer over their unlikely victory, fans in Philadelphia are in shock, having the Phillies get knocked out of the League Championship Series.
What remains is hope for a better season next year, as this was the second year in a row where the Phillies were so close to victory, but they had it taken away from them.
