TOWAMENCIN- A win or a tie is all they needed to send them to playoffs, the Knights answered the call.
In a well fought battle the North Penn Knights girls soccer squad (8-8) tied the Central Bucks Titans (8-8) 2-2 as the Knights gear up for the postseason. After facing two postponements during the Knights and Titans first match back in early September, the teams finally came back together to put an end to the game once and for all. Unfortunately the game was to be played from where it originally left off, which meant the game started with the Knights in an 0-1 deficit and the clock resumed with only 18 minutes left in the first half. The Knights faced a quiet first half with the defense holding strong to maintain the one-goal deficit.
“We came out strong from the start, we knew what we had to do and we pushed it into overtime hopefully giving us the push into the playoffs this season, it was a very important game for us,” Captain Kiera Sparango stated.
Fifteen minutes into the second half, the Knights faced a major blow when the Titans scored their second goal. But this certainly didn’t stop the Knights. Five minutes later, Maddy Murphy scored the Knight’s first goal, pulling them back to a one-score deficit. With 11:45 left in the second half and a lot of confusion in the Titan’s box, Izzy Rudnick was able to tap the ball into the goal tying the game at 2-2. The standstill score sent the Knights into double overtime where the game ended in a 2-2 draw.
“I think it was a good team effort today. We came from behind and picked it up. Now we have a good push to start off the postseason,” Murphy stated.
Great effort came from both defense and offense to get the tie Thursday night.
“Our defense has been locked down all year, they’ve been making a lot of clutch plays, and its translated into our strong offense and both complement each other,” Murphy said.
