Knights gain Senior Day victory over Cardinals
The North Penn girl’s tennis team wasn’t just celebrating their seniors Tuesday evening; they were celebrating their satisfying Senior Day victory as well.
The North Penn Knights (5-3) gained a (4-3) win over the Upper Dublin Cardinals (4-4).
In the first singles match of the day, Lexy Juckniewitz struggled to defeat Upper Dublin’s Jill Hackett and ended up losing the first set 1-6 and the second 0-6. The singles matches still ended in North Penn’s favor, though, as Addi Brown won both her sets with the score of 6-2, and Dakota Williams won her first set 6-2 and her second 6-3. These North Penn wins gave them the lead at 2-1.
The Knights prevailed in their first doubles match with Ashley Bohling and Sanjana Jacob winning their first set 6-4, losing their second 4-6, and winning their third 6-2. In the other doubles matches, however, the Cardinals won twice against the Knights, tying the game as a whole up at 3-3.
The final doubles match between North Penn and Upper Dublin was the tiebreaker of the night. The Cardinals were no match for the Knights, though, as North Penn’s Amber Luby and Jayne Yunaska secured the final victory of the game. The Knights won both sets, the first 7-5, and the second 6-4. The conclusion of the 4-3 game led into North Penn’s Senior Day ceremony.
Chalk with names of the tennis team’s seniors adorned the sidewalk under the lights of the courts. Seniors accompanied by their families relished in the moments of recognition for their North Penn tennis career.
The chemistry and support between the team shown was especially evident on Tuesday night. North Penn’s girl’s tennis team acknowledged their senior’s dedication and devotion to the team while also highlighting their achievements throughout their North Penn tennis careers. The courts remained lively into the evening as the team shared food and laughs to end their night.
North Penn’s next match will be away against Souderton Area High School on Thursday at 8:30 AM.
