Faikish named to USA Swimming 18&U World 100 list
Senior Sean Faikish continues to put his name in the record books of North Penn and the world.
TOWAMENCIN- 2019 consisted of multiple achievements for senior Sean Faikish, including a water polo state championship, 1st team all state selection, and a spot on the USA’s Swimming World Junior team. And as the calendar flipped over to 2020, the accolades Sean has collected in the pool got a little bigger.
USA swimming named their 18 & Under World 100 list, consisting of their perceived top 100 ranked swimmers by category of swim technique based on performance in the pool. A reflection of the bright future the USA swimming program holds, the goal of the list is to recognize the talent each of the athletes holds in the pool in addition to acknowledging the excellence they have achieved with the support of coaches and clubs, who have stood behind them throughout their aquatics career.
“[Being selected to the USA Swimming’s 18&U World 100 list], It’s awesome. To think that a couple years ago I looked up to those swimmers and now being in the same conversation with them is amazing,” Faikish said.
This achievement, Faikish feels, couldn’t have been accomplished on talent alone and he appreciates all the people around him that have helped him to get to this point.
“I was so excited when I found out [I was selected]. I actually was at a swim meet when I found out and I told a couple of my teammates and they were super happy for me, celebrating with me. My success comes from them. Everyone that has been a part of this journey with me has supported me. From my coaches and family to my friends and teammates…they bring out the best in me,” Faikish added.
Faikish placed 26th in the 200 individual medley, 32nd in the 400 individual medley, 42nd in the 200 breaststroke, and 100th in the 100 breaststroke. Having the opportunity to represent his high school’s swimming and diving program at North Penn as well as earning the opportunity to represent his nation in the sport he loves, Faikish takes everything in from this prestigious selection.
“It’s an honor. To know that North Penn is where it all started and to also represent the United States of America is a dream come true,”Faikish stated.
Kicking off a year here he will set out his Division 1 swimming career at the University of Notre Dame following his commitment as a junior last February, an amazing recognition means a lot to Faikish in only the first month of 2020. With many more pools to jump in, lanes to shred through, and events to compete in, there is still much in store for Sean Faikish, both as an individual athlete and teammate.
“This acknowledgment is awesome, but what I’m looking forward to is going out and trying to win a state championship with my teammates. [My goal is to] just keep training. We’ve all been training very hard and we have high hopes heading into the postseason. I want to make this year one to remember with all these guys on the team,” Faikish concluded.
