TOWAMENCIN- Forfeits definitely gave the Knights a big advantage but they also got 4 wins to come out with a win in the first home meet of the season on youth night.

The North Penn Knights (7-7) beat the CB West Bucks (2-2) 49-26 in a Tuesday afternoon meet.

“We as a team need to step it up and start doing the moves we’re teaching,” Coach Robert Shettsline said.

The meet began with senior Amir Pickens accepting a forfeit at the 285-pound class and he put the Knights up 6-0.  The Bucks retook the lead however as Teague McMormack pinned Dylan Reinhard in the 106-pound match and Chris Cleland won by a technical fall in the 113-pound match.  The Bucks were up 11-6 until Eddie Galang scored a decision in the 120 lbs. weight class.  Jabez Chae accepted the forfeit in the 126-pound weight class.  Then the Knights got back-to-back pins from freshman William Morrow and junior Alec Schrum in the 132 and 138-pound weight class to go up 27-1.

“I saw him sitting out.  He was leaning back far so I just sucked him back.  We were drilling that a little bit after practice,” Schrum said.

Sophomore Nophir Harrell won 11-3 to get a major win in the 145-pound weight class.  The Bucks got back on the board with Blake Bensing’s decision win but then three straight forfeits put the Knights ahead 49-14.  The Bucks ended the night with back-to-back pins from Carl Digiorgio and Ryan Heiber but the lead was too much to overcome.

There will be high stakes the next time the team takes to the mats as the wrestlers will try and win the SOL championships.

“We have our league tournament this weekend so we’re gonna try and win that,” Coach Shettsline said.
