TOWAMENCIN- Being the quarterback of the NP football team and the all time single season passing leader in District 1, Reece Udinski is definitely in the spotlight at NPHS. His name is regularly heard under the Friday night lights as his passes help led the Knights to win after win from September into December.

Arriving at North Penn in his junior year, the senior has surely made a name for himself in such a large school. Udinski explained that coming from Central Bucks West was a difficult adjustment, especially acclimating to the size of the building.

CB West was a lot smaller, which I like, but meeting all of these new people has been fun,” stated Udinski. I used to be shy in my opinion, but I think I’ve grown and become more welcoming to new people and making new friends. It’s helped me a lot.”

Being able to meet his new teammates and coaches in the summer before his first year made the transition to NPHS much easier.

“Switching schools wasn’t that bad, because in the summer I came and played football, so I got to meet the students and coaches. That helped me ease into things, and everyone’s been really welcoming,” explained Udinski.

In addition to his switching schools, Udinski discussed his vested interest in sports; not only does he play football, but also basketball and lacrosse.

“When you have the teammates I have, I think it helps, plus I play basketball and lacrosse and some of the kids play those sports, so they’re kind of like my best friends. Coach Beck and I also have a good relationship,” explained Udinski.

It’s no surprise that football is one of Udinski’s many talents; he’s been playing from a very young age. Playing for such a large school like NPHS may be intimidating for some, but he takes pride in what he has done for his new school.

“I’ve been playing since I was 5 years old, so it’s kind of second nature now,” explained Udinski. “I know football is very popular at North Penn, and everybody likes going to the games, so I just try to enjoy it as much as possible. The best part about this season was definitely the district championship. We won 14 straight games, so even though we lost the last game, I’m still really happy with how the season went.”

Not only is the senior known for his game-winning abilities, but also his strong faith: a trait admired by many.

“I know a lot of the football players are in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, so I think that’s cool. I think it’s definitely cool to talk about it and go to the meetings, or even at practice I have conversations with some of the guys on their different views on religion. To me, I’m really open about it, and I don’t mind talking about it. I think it’s cool to talk about it and hear other views,” explained Udinski.

Since Udinski plays two other sports and the seasons follow each other, he’s constantly busy. He explained that out of all three, football is the most difficult to train for because of the summer heat mixed with running and lifting for hours.

“It’s pretty tough, like for basketball, I just played in a game the other day, and I only had one practice, so I don’t really know any of the plays, but I think the coach just lets me play, because he knows he can just put me out there even though I’m behind. But the good thing is the sports keep me in shape, so I’m prepared for each season,” explained Udinski.

With his last basketball season already here and lacrosse quickly approaching, Udinski has big goals for each season.

“For basketball, we have a lot of good seniors, and last year we went 11-12, so I think we should definitely do better than that. I’m trying to stay optimistic about it. With lacrosse, we went 16-4 and lost a ton of players, but a goal would be to win the league. We came in 2nd last year, so of course we want to win it this year,” said Udinski.

Regarding his future, Udinski just recently committed to Virginia Military Institute, where he will continue his football career and hopes to study education and business.
