With a 12-5 defeat by the Cumberland Valley Eagles on Saturday, November 5th, the Knight took second place for states.

TOWAMENCIN- Coming off of a 15-10 win against the Cathedral Prep Ramblers earlier that day, the men’s water polo team was determined to bring home the state title as they played against the Cumberland Valley Eagles on Saturday evening. However, the Knights lost with a score of 12-5, leaving them as second in the state.

The first quarter started off with the Eagles scoring consistently, gaining an advantage of 5-0 by the time the buzzer went off.

North Penn tried every effort to score a point, but the Knights only ended up letting another goal in by the end of the second quarter.

After halftime, the boys came back into the water with a new determination. Junior Matt Franco scored the first point for the Knights (3:41), and Junior Derek Friday helped with another goal (2:57). Junior Ryan Hartmann let the quarter end with one last goal (0:33).

The pressure was on in the 4th quarter as the Knights gave all that they could to fight for the title. Junior Benjamin Ahlmark started the quarter off with a goal (6:04), making it clear that any point could help. Junior Andrew Dunigan gave one last effort to help his team win (2:57), but the timer went off, and it was too late.

“It’s a shame because we had beaten this team before,” said Head Coach Jason Grubb, “but I’m proud of the boys for coming this far, and it’s clear how hard they worked.”

Despite the defeat, sophomore AJ Patterson, freshman Sean Faikish, and juniors Andrew Dunigan and Zach Owens were awarded with honorable mention. Junior Derek Friday and Senior Nico Katriviz were awarded as the top players on the team.
