NP grad Crisler first Lady Knight to play in NCAA tourney
March 20, 2015
Lauren Crisler has made history in North Penn High School athletics, even though she graduated two years ago. Since she graduated in 2013, the North Penn alumna headed off to American University to play Division I basketball.
Recently, the American University Women’s Basketball team earned a bid into the 2015 NCAA Women’s basketball tournament, thus making Crisler the first North Penn graduate to play in the NCAA Women’s tournament.
North Penn head coach Maggie DeMarteleire is certainly proud to see one of her former players enjoying so much opportunity and success at the next level.
“It’s obviously very exciting. My husband and I had the opportunity to go down and see her play and they won which put them in the tournament and she is the first girl from North Penn to play in the Division I NCAA tournament. What a great representative she is for North Penn. She is one of the nicest girls you’re ever going to want to meet. She works really hard and she comes from a really nice family. It couldn’t happen to a better person,” said DeMarteleire.
Crisler was captain of the Lady Knights basketball team in her junior and senior year at North Penn. Her successes with the team included a District One championship game her junior year and a District 1 Class AAAA state quarterfinals game her senior year. In her junior year, Crisler was also selected to the Continental Conference First Team.
Last collegiate basketball season, Crisler played in 29 games and ended the season with 89 points and 45 rebounds. So far, in the 2014-2015 season, she’s played in 32 games and has a total of 156 points and 101 rebounds.
American University is set to face off against Iowa University on Friday, March 20th at 2:30pm on ESPN2.
