TOWAMENCIN- The North Penn girls volleyball team fell Tuesday afternoon to CB South, losing in three straight sets, with scores of 25-20, 28-26, and 25-21. The interleague match ended dropping the Maidens to 2-5 for the season.
North Penn started each set out strong, but finishing sets and returning serves became their downfall, as they were not able to sustain any lengthy rallies to even the scores. The first set was easily won by CB South, who took control by a score of 25-20. The second set was the Maidens’ best of the day, as they held even with the titans all the way to 26-26. However, they could not sustain the run, and CB South took the second set 28-26. The Maidens were down a major piece of their team during the third set, as senior Hannah Simon exited early with apparent shoulder discomfort, returning to the bench for the remainder of the game with a bag of ice, and leaving the maidens without her 5 kills and 2 serving aces.
The Maidens would not go down without a fight, as a rally, propelled by the insertion of Sarah Shiber and her serving, North Penn pulled within two points of CB South. Their efforts ultimately fell short though, and they lost the set 25-21, and consequently, the match.
Coach Bryan Yost was upbeat about the season despite the team’s record, and recognizes the strides his players have made halfway through their league schedule.
“We just started the second half of the league schedule. There have been ups and downs this season, definitely a slow start,” said Yost. “But we’ve been showing promise and we’re really on the verge of becoming a good team, a team that can compete.”
That is the ultimate goal for the Maidens- getting back to being a competitive team in the Continental Conference.
“We just have to get in some conference wins though, beat a few teams coming up on our schedule and we’ll have a chance to make playoffs.”
The Maidens will get their chance to make a run at the playoffs, with five games left remaining in the league season. Their next test will be in a match at CB East, this Friday at 3:30.
