TOWAMENCIN – A windy Tuesday afternoon at North Penn yielded a great win for the Tennis team, taking rival Quakertown by a score of 6-1. Singles competition wins included Jason Wherry winning in 3 sets and Jeevan Prabhakar defeating his Quakertown opponent in 2 straight sets, both with a score of 6-0.
“The singles competition really set the day off well,” commented coach Nelson Watton, “I think the competition was pretty tough, and our guys really came through.”
The doubles competition was just as controlling, as Tim Doerr and Bijai Varma defeated their opponents in 2 straight sets, winning both 6-0. Beil Goh and Tyler Matyszak also won in 2 straight sets, 6-0 and 6-1.
“It was big for us getting another win in the league,” said senior Howard Chu, “I’d say our confidence is a lot higher now after this win. It definitely felt satisfying, especially with the amount of impressive performances.” Howard and his partner Ryan Cox, along with Cory Bogas and Robert Terchek came up winners in their doubles matches in dominating fashion.
With the victory, the Knights now stand at 3-4-1 overall, but a strong 3-1 in the Suburban One League. “We’re definitely trying to win the league, that’s our goal,” said Howard, “and this win was a huge step in the right direction for us. Our confidence is very high right now.”
The Knights are back in action on Thursday against Hatboro-Horsham, looking for their fourth win in the league and continuing their season.
