TOWAMENCIN – It has not been an easy start for the 0-4 North Penn Knights lacrosse team between having difficulties playing a consistent full game to starting up their offense. Unfortunately, Tuesday’s game against the Hatboro Horsham Hatters was no different.
The Knights started out strong scoring the first goal of the game (Kyle Holmes) with 4:40 remaining in the first quarter. Sawyer Koch and goalie Chris Barr provided a strong defense for the Knights, but the Hatters were able to take a 2-1 lead by the end of the first quarter.
The Knights continued offensively unable to start anything in the second quarter while Hatboro-Horsham was able to pick up a goal before half.
After halftime was a different story with the Knights unable to get anything going. They started to breakdown – dropping balls and missing passes. The Hatters were able to capitalize on North Penn mistakes scoring 7 goals in the second half of play. Zach McKelvie was able to score another goal for North Penn bringing the final score to 10-2.
“When you’re playing a lot of defense and you’re playing defense for 75% of the game it’s tough to do. I am asking 6 guys to play defense and it’s tough to do … our best defense is our offense possessing the ball and that’s where we need to get to. We need our offense to be able to possess the ball, that’s our best defense,” explained Coach Rick Smith.
Moving on and looking forward to future games, Smith said they are focusing on going “back to the basics – catching, throwing, and picking up ground balls.”
The Knight’s next game is Friday April 11th at C.B. West
