Facing tough conditions and a fierce rival, North Penn got tougher. On a blustery Tuesday afternoon, North Penn Track & Field took a 76-74 victory over Pennridge, their top rival in the Continental Conference, in hard-fought fashion.
The long-sprint runners found it tough to deal with Joey Logue, one of the premier 800 runners not just in the area but the entire country. Many of the on-track performances were not up to expectation, although Jordan Green had strong outings, going first in the 200 meter and second in the 100 meter.
“We knew it was going to be a tough meet all along,” said Ryan Grace, “they have one of the fastest kids in the country on their team, we got our butts kicked on the track but our field guys stepped up and gave us the victory.”
The field boys coming up big was the story of the meet. Discus throwers Phil McGinty and Justin Boyette came up big in discuss. The Javelin crew swept their event, and Lan Pham won the pole vault. It turns out it was just enough for the boys to come up with the close victory.
“A win is a win and I’m just glad we got one against our biggest rival,” stated Grace. The team has its first victory under its belt, aiming for many more as the season gets in full swing.
