TOWAMENCIN – The qualifying North Penn High School Swimmers will be competing in the PIAA Swimming Championships at Bucknell University on Wednesday March 12-Saturday March 15.
For the last four months these swimmers had swam about twenty-three per hours a week, but all of that hard work and dedication will come to an end this week. Senior captain Tara Rogers said “We are hoping to have a good end to our season and are looking forward to going up against some of the best competition in the state.” This will be Rogers’s fourth time swimming in the State Championships. Throughout her four years on the team, Rogers had swam everything from the 5oo freestyle to the 100 butterfly. She will be swimming the individual 200 freestyle, 200 freestyle relay and the 400 free style relay.
Junior Olivia Distefano is another swimmer to watch. At Districts she struck gold in the individual 50 freestyle and the 200 freestyle relay. Her relay consisted of Leah Brown, Kailyn Evans and Aimee Baur. Evans placed fourth in the individual medley, and hopes to find success in her first state championships being the only freshman to represent North Penn.
The 200 free relay of Brett Else, Thanas Kountroubis, Greg Neidlinger, and Liam Kelly placed first at Districts. Junior Liam Kelly, who will swim the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, and the 200 and 400 freestyle relays, said “I have high hopes for everyone going. We have great potential individually as well as a team. Our relays are placed very well and we have a few individual events with swimmers seeded well.” The girls and boys both won Districts titles, placing them in a very good position heading into the States Championships.
