HATFIELD – The North Penn Knights ice hockey team battled their rivals, the CB South Titans, last night in front of an energized crowd at Hatfield Ice. It is a rivalry that has evolved over the years, and was clearly display last night.
The 1st period was no exception to this rivalry, both teams played as almost equals throughout the period. Both teams with their fair share of hits and shots on net as the physical game went underway and the excitement began to increase, specifically when Christian Ahn scored the first goal of the game for the Knights in attempts to garner momentum. However, the Titans scored moments later and deflated the Knights momentum. The 2nd period was dominated by the Titans, with two goals.
The 3rd Period was looking similar to the 2nd; CB South put in two more goals and seemingly shut the door on the Knights. Christian Ahn scored his second goal and gave North Penn a fighting chance. Senior Captain Matt Stella saw that and came back into the game from an earlier injury and energized his team. However, the Titans scored an empty netter and sealed the game.
“It was a tough game against a very good hockey team. We came out and played with them the first period, but the second period they took it to us and luckily our goalie John Roberts played very well and kept us in the game. But missing two of our better players in Jeremy Snyder and Alex Peterson really showed out there. But now we need to focus on the playoffs and go from there and make a run.” said Captain Matthew Stella.
The Knights took a tough 6-2 loss to rival CB South, and look to focus on the playoff game tonight at 5:30pm against Abington.
