TOWAMENCIN – Although the frigid temperatures kept many fans away Monday night, the North Penn Knights turned up the heat in their 75-49 victory over the Quakertown Panthers.
Coming off their Saturday victory against local rival Lansdale Catholic, the Knights continued to play solid team basketball with senior Brian Coleman scoring 17 points in the 41-30 first half.
“We just brought a lot of energy. We needed the win and we came out strong and did what we needed to do,” stated Coleman on the Knights performance last night.
Head Coach Brian Conrad was quick to notice the Knights’ selfless play which lead to a strong offensive output.
“I thought we were very unselfish tonight and that’s why we were able to score 75 points…Brian did a real nice job creating some opportunities with turnovers and layups, but he was really the recipient of some good passing,” explained boys’ basketball coach John Conrad.
The beginning of the second half was a defensive battle with only 22 points being scored by both teams.
The Knights are always looking to improve upon their defense each game.
“Playing good defense that always our main focus…we’ve kept teams in the forties the last three games – we’ve won all three. So that’s what we’re trying to do, keep them in the forties and we can win with that,” continued Conrad.
With 7 minutes remaining, the North Penn offense came alive finishing off the game with a score 75-49 racking up the points with shots by seniors Noah Melchior, Aaron Dean, and Suleyman Hakim.
When asked what the Knights were focused on tonight Coleman replied, “Just to get the W. We needed tonight’s win. We lost 5 games this year and we need to get back on track and we did it –teamwork.”
Moving forward, the Knights will look to “continue to work on defense and continue to be unselfish; we’ve won the last three in a row by doing that and we’re going to keep doing that,” concluded Conrad.
