SOUDERTON – The Knights exciting turnaround season came to a frigid end on the frozen tundra of Souderton stadium as the Neshaminy football team* defeated the North Penn Knights 42-7 on Friday night.
In an eventful start, Neshaminy’s D’Andre Pollard put Neshaminy on the board first with a 15 yard touchdown run on their first possession. The Knights answered back with a 72 yard touchdown run by Nyfease West to tie the game at 7. This was to be the Knights only points as Neshaminy took control on both sides of the ball and quickly put the game out of reach. Pollard was able to sprint through gaping holes in the North Penn defensive line and rack up over 200 first half yards giving Neshaminy a commanding 28-7 halftime lead.
To open the second half, the Knights drove the ball down deep into Neshaminy territory. Back to back penalties put the Knights in a fourth and long situation and opted to attempt a 52 yard field goal which fell short. On defense, the Knights stopped Neshaminy’s opening second half drive by sacking the quarterback Tyler Wombough. However, ultimately the Neshaminy ground assault proved to be too much and the Knights were unable to put together sustainable offensive drives and fell in a final 42-7 defeat.
Taking tonight’s lost in perspective, Coach Dick Beck commented on the hard work of the team this season.
“It was a great season. The seniors did a great job, we’re very proud of them. They were such a joy especially with how hard they worked at the end of the year. I know this was a tough night, but they are going to wake up on Monday morning and feel real great about it.”
