TOWAMENCIN – Excited to play against an undefeated team, the Pennridge Rams (2-4 conference) brought plenty of energy and fire to North Penn’s soccer field Thursday afternoon to battle the unbeaten Knights. It proved to be enough energy for a tie as the Rams and Knights kicked to a 2-2 stalemate. Knights’ assistant coach Chris DePeppe was unhappy with the tie, but understood that North Penn put up a good fight.
“Pennridge came in pretty pumped up; you could tell it was a very big game for them. I feel like we matched their intensity, specifically in the second half and through overtime. We certainly looked like the better team in the second half; we just cannot give up two goals at home,” continued DePeppe.
Coach DePeppe credited the Rams for their good performance, “they were dangerous and well organized. They won a lot of challenges. As you can see, there is a lot of parity in this league, and any team can come in and beat anybody.”
Team captain Tim Langton acknowledged North Penn’s sloppy start, which intensified as the game progressed. “I feel like we had a slow start, so we had to grind our way back in. We got a 2-1 lead, but just couldn’t finish it out.”
Brad Deckel scored to give the Knights that 2-1 edge with three minutes remaining. However, the Knights were unable to hold onto the late lead as the Rams tied it, sending the game into overtime.
The game ended in a tie as the Knights were unable to finish off the Rams.
As the Knights wrapped up Thursday evening’s match, their record moved to 7-0-2, remaining unbeaten and atop the Continental Conference heading into Saturday’s nonconference non-league tilt with Archbishop Wood.
