TOWAMENCIN – The Knights boys’ water polo notched a win against Pennridge Thursday, winning in comfortable fashion, 19-4.
Despite losing the sprint off in the first quarter, North Penn played solid defense against the aggressive Pennridge Rams. After being down 1-0 within the opening minutes, North Penn came back strong with goals from Brett Else, Thanas Kountrobis, Shane Hennessey, Liam Kelly and Skyler Trautz. Junior Brett Else was clear to point out that the Knights do have some things to work on.
“We need to work on coming out strong in the first quarter and keeping the momentum going,” said Else.
The boys carried on their lead with two more goals from Brett Else and one more from Thanas Kountroubis. Senior goalie, Jon Krail, made two great saves, ending the 2nd quarter North Penn up 12-4.
North Penn played shutdown defense in the second half with Krail making five more saves. Else, Kelly, Kevin Killion and Cole Palumbo all had multiple steals leading to Owen Marett and Kyle Supko tacking on additional goals.
While the win was important, equally significant for the Knights was how they played. Senior
“it was a good game, our fundamentals were good and that is the most important part,” noted senior captain Jonah Kim.
“We’re happy for a nice win against a rival team and we hope to improve every game to reach our goal of making it to States this year,” added head coach Jason Grubb.
The Knights will next play at the Beast of the East Tournament on Friday and Saturday the.
Killion added, “We worked as team tonight, it was a good win and we hope to carry this momentum forward to the tournament this weekend.”
