TOWAMENCIN – As fall rolls around leaves will turn to crimson and football stadiums will fill with fans in pink united in their support of breast cancer awareness around the nation. This year’s Breast Cancer Awareness Game, “A Crucial Catch,” hosted by the North Penn High School Key Club will be this Friday, September 20 versus Central Bucks East at Crawford Stadium.
The NFL and American Cancer Society Crucial Catch money goes to breast cancer awareness and to support of the elimination of this disease.
This event has been so successful at North Penn because of its relevance to every high school student here.
“Unfortunately, one of our young lady’s mother passed away two days ago, and we have had teachers who have had cancer here at the high school; lots of people unfortunately have the disease and we are trying to help out with that,” stated Key Club advisor Linda Law.
Knights football coach Dick Beck has always been a strong supporter of the Breast Cancer Awareness Game here at North Penn stating,
“The first year we did [this event], it was at Abington and their coach called me up – both our moms are breast cancer survivors so we sold t-shirts, it was a big production and it was a very positive event that raised a lot of money which is important, but I think the awareness is even more important so it obviously touched home for me.”
T-shirts are available while they last $10 for S-XL and $12 for XXL and are being sold in the cafeteria and in Mrs. Law’s office. (Note: Mrs. Law is currently out of t-shirts but hopes to receive a shipment of them around noon on Friday morning stop by her office in the sports lobby to pick one up there.)
Also in need of student support are the North Penn Knights who, after a tough start in nonconference games, look to restart their season with the opening of conference league games this Friday against the Patriots.
“I think we are treating the conference games as the beginning of the season. The three nonconference games were obviously very stiff competition and all three teams were very good and probably will go very far in playoffs. We’re going to start our league games with the mindset of our season starts this week against C.B. East,” stated Beck.
With multiple injuries keeping key players off the field the Knights have had to make some adjustmnets.
“We try to simplify things a little bit. We can’t be as diverse offensively or defensively, so we are just trying to teach the basics and get the kids lined up and not overload their minds,” continued Beck.
Dig through your closets find your pink and come out and support “A Crucial Catch” to support Breast Cancer Awareness this Friday night at Crawford Stadium as the North Penn Knights take on their first conference games versus C.B. East Patriots.
