TOWAMENCIN- Abdul Mohamed was all smiles after the home game yesterday against Central Bucks East, scoring the only goal with ten minutes remaining to lead North Penn to a 1-0 shutout victory, keeping the Knights unbeaten at 5-0.
“I was just relieved we finally got the goal in. It was a long game and we were just happy to get on top.” Abdul said, indeed very much relieved. He didn’t take all the glory for himself, however. He gave kudos to his fellow team mate, Dylan McMahon. “Dylan had a great game” he was quick to mention.
The Knights defense was spot on, giving up not a single goal to C.B. East. Sophomore rookie goaltender Jordan Katz blocked numerous opposing attempts to claim the lead.Close calls peppered the game though; shots off the crossbar and close free kicks kept the game tight. The Knights also cashed in on strong performances by juniors Drew McMenamin and Kevin McKenna, while seniors Carlos Benitez and Evan Meoli added several shots of their own to keep the pressure on the Patriots.
In the second half, senior Roben Qawasmy sustained a leg injury while trying to keep the ball in play. He was carried off the field and will be later assessed in whether he plays this week’s games or not.
“That would be a big piece missing if he’s not able to go.” coach Duddy remarked, but also positively acknowledged the fact that he has promising players on the bench waiting to play.
He is proud of the team’s victory and hopes it can continue to this week’s next two games.
“It’s a real tough conference and like I’ve said many times, it’s a grind.” he commented.
The Knights (5-0; 3-0) will go on to face Quakertown at home on Wednesday and Hatboro-Horsham away on Friday.
