TOWAMENCIN-Despite playing without junior midfielder Katilin Suzuki due to an injury, the North Penn Maidens ran away with a key league game against the Lady Indians of Souderton winning by a score of 14-11.
“It was doing the little things on the field, passing catching, getting the ground balls and we really wanted to play good aggressive defense and that was a big part of our victory today. If our defense played hard and we could stop them from scoring then we knew that we could put some goals on the board,” said Maidens coach Jami Wilus Behm.
The Maidens began the game with a quick tempo led by two goals from junior midfielder Ashley Durham. The Maidens would continue to score 4 more unanswered goals until Souderton’s Natalie Bulger scored with 17:01 left on the board. The goal by Bulger iniated a back and forth match for goals leading into the half with North Penn in the lead 8-5.
“I think we need to cut down on the turnovers we had a lot in the 2nd half and even some in the fist today that we need to clean up and continue to get better,” said Coach Behm.
North Penn began the 2nd half by goals from Senior Hannah Young and Junior Ashley Durham as the close battle for goals and possessions ensued. Despite many turnovers from both teams North Penn was able to out-hustle Souderton and acquire a 14-11 victory over the Indians.
“We had a lot of teamwork, we had a lot of turnovers but that is something we can fix in practice. We have had a couple adjustments in our lineups and we are all still adapting to that, but everyone is working very hard, so I think we should be good moving forward,” said Young.
The Maidens played with a strong offensive effort by Young, Senior Lauren Green and Durham as well as an aggressive defensive front led by Junior Gabby DiDomizio and senior goalkeeper Jenna Stover. With success on both sides of the ball, the Lady Maidens now move to a 9-2 record with losses to CB East (7-4) and Hatboro Horsham (10-1).
