TOWAMENCIN- Breaths were held, fingers were crossed, all were on their feet as they watched the potential game winning ball shot from the hands of the Bucks’ Jared Kelly, rattle the inside of the rim and fall out of the basket. The Knights bench let out sighs of relief as the student section roared.
The Knights battled through and intense game, where momentum was everything. In the end it came down to physicality and toughness as the Knights of North Penn (5-6, 2-4 conference) would pull out in the end an impressive 43-41 victor over CB West (5-7,3-3 conference).
“It means a lot, especially since we lost three in a row. We doubted ourselves, however, this past week we were working hard at practice and we came out on the right side tonight,” Said Coach John Conrad
“We didn’t have Mike(Swanson) out there so we were going to need a little bit of rebound help, some energy – and I thought Steph really pulled through for us tonight as a captain. We now need to continue to execute; tonight we did a very good job of that. We worked as a team, it was a very unselfish effort throughout the night and I’m looking forward to continuing that for the remainder of our games,” said Junior Noah Melchior
It was a resilient defensive effort combined with a poised offense that would give the Knights the victory. They had a good performance from their bench as well as their starters. They used a different variety of offensive attacks with the diversity of talent they are fully equipped with on and off the bench.
“I feel like we would have rebounded a little bit better if we had (Swanson) in there tonight, Early on, our senior, Steph Brown, played great, Aaron (Dean) had some real big rebounds down the stretch, and I thought Chris Kersey ran our offense well and did a nice job defensively ,” Conrad said.
The Knights look to use this win as the turning of a new leaf. Although they are without senior captain Mike Swanson, Friday night’s win was huge in the North Penn Locker room and potentially a momentum shifter for the duration of the season as they seek to garner more wins and possibly a playoff berth.
“It was a good win for us because we are the underdog in the division and the conference. Other teams are under the assumption that you play North Penn and it’s an automatic win for them, it’s time for us to end that. We came out and did our thing, mike is down, and we played for him tonight. We had been going through some hardships as a team but we have begun to come back together as a team, it’s time to get focused and determined once again,” said Senior Captain Stephen Brown.
