TOWAMENCIN- As the sun set over the turf field and the lights began to shine, the North Penn Boys Soccer Team began their hunt for states. The Knights stole the show, defeating the 26th seed Strath Haven.
Strath Haven struck first with a goal midway through the 1st half. Strath Haven kept the lead until early in the 2nd half when Alex Evans stormed across the field with the ball, hitting Matt Robinson with the assist that tied up the game.
The game then entered the Golden Goal period in which neither team was able to secure the victory until the game reached overtime. With 4:47 left on the clock, Matt Robinson, with an assist from Sean Gorman, kicked the goal that ended the hopes of Strath Haven, while also revitalizing North Penn giving them further hope in achieving their ultimate goal. “It couldn’t feel better” said Robinson. “Everybody was behind me, and we got some emotion going on, and we were feeling real good.”
The win was a result of North Penn’s strong efforts on both sides of the ball. They put consistent pressure on helping them triumph in the end.
“We played well. It was an absolutely competitive game, and Strath Haven is a great team,” said Coach Duddy. “We will now continue to work hard at practice tomorrow, and we have another tough match up on Thursday.”
The Boys soccer team will Host Lower Merion Thursday night at 7pm as they continue their journey for a spot in states.
