TOWAMENCIN- Last Thursday, the North Penn girls volleyball team came back after a loss at Lansdale Catholic on Wednesday, to beat Phoenixville in three consecutive matches—25-6, 25-17, and 25-14.
In the first match, within a few minutes North Penn was on the board after Phoenixville missed the volley, 1-0. But Phoenixville quickly answered. Although they don’t have as much experience as the Maidens they held their own and tried to fight back. After several rounds of volleying efforts with numerous saves by seniors, Alyssa Chiodo, Courtney Gill and plenty of spikes from senior, Stephanie Elechko the Maidens came out with a win in set one, 25-6.
Switching sides for the second match, the Maidens quickly scored several points with sophomore Hannah Simon getting the ball rolling with a spike, 8-6. Sophomore Devon Markus helped further her team with seven aces making the score 16-6. Phoenixville slowly came back to score some of the volleys. But with teamwork, the Maidens won that set 25-17.
In the final match of the game, senior Isabelle Kerr stepped up to help with two impressive spikes, a block and a save to get the Maidens to 17-11. Chiodo and Elechko worked well in saving the ball which allowed them to advance. With strong blockers and multiple saves, the girls took the win in the match with the final score of 25-14.
After the game, the captains Chiodo, with a little playful help from Elechko, reflected on what their team needs to improve on, “attitude, more positive, keeping up with the pace of the game.” Monday, October 15th, the Maidens will head to Christopher Dock.
