DOYLESTOWN – What a difference a week makes. On Friday night, the Knights passing and running game was firing on all cylinders as the
Knights beat C.B. East 42 – 7. Steve Gozur led the high powered North Penn offense scoring three touchdowns and compiling over 100 all purpose yards.
From the start, the Knights offense showed a wide open style not seen in the previous three games with play action opening up passing lanes
and the opportunities for some big North Penn gains.
“Maybe we played it too tight to the vest in the first three games and didn’t give these guys a chance,” commented Head Coach Dick Beck
“maybe we need to start opening it up some.”
The Knights went with a two QB approach with both Austin Shearer and Mike Berstecher sharing the quarterback duties. Coach Beck was pleased with
the play of his quarterbacks.
“Both of them played well, they are so even, both made mistakes but both made nice plays and were able to adjust as the game went on.”
When asked if he would continue the two QB system, Coach Beck said, “Yes, if it continues to work like this, absolutely.”
The Knight’s offensive speed raised havoc with the Patriots defense with Berstecher connecting with George Shipp on a 41 yard touchdown
pass and a quick crossing slant pass to Eddie Posavec for a score. Chris McGinnis scored the final Knight touchdown taking it up the middle for 14 yards to score. When asked about his dominating performance Steve Gozur credited the play calling and blocking of the line which “opened up
holes that anyone could have run through.”
Not to be outdone by the offense, the North Penn defense played equally tough in preventing the Patriots from crossing midfield until late in
the second quarter and holding the Patriots to just 7 points for the entire game. That lone, momentum building score with less than two minutes left in the first half was quickly crushed by the Knights who marched the ball right back down and scored with less than a minute left in the half to go up 28 -7 at half time.
Because “nothing happens without hard work,” Coach Beck and the Knights will continue to practice harder as they seek to repeat as
champions of the Continental Conference. The Knights hope to continue the momentum as they play their second conference game next week against Quakertown back at home.
