TOWAMENCIN-It may have taken longer than expected, but after nine innings the North Penn baseball team defeated Pennridge by a score of 4-3.
The Knights (10-3, 6-3 conference) were powered behind a very strong pitching performance from Reed Shuttle. Shuttle pitched all nine innings allowing no walks and only five hits in the process of striking out 14 batters.
“Reed is starting to come in his own and develop more consistency,” said head coach Kevin Manero. “What we saw yesterday is about as much as you can hope for in a big game at this point in the season.”
The Knights offense got off to a slow start as they failed to score a run until the fifth inning. Luckily for Shuttle and the Knights, he had only allowed two runs up until that point. North Penn trailed 3-1 in the 6th when they tied it up on a Nate Heller sacrifice bunt followed by a single off the bat of Eric Albaugh.
There were no more runs until the bottom of the ninth when senior Chris Boroch, who due to a broken bone in his hand, had not played in a game this season, bunted for a hit, forcing a throwing error to first and allowing senior Nick Marukos to score the winning run from first.
The Knights will look to follow up on their big win when they travel to first place Central Bucks West on Wednesday.
