TOWAMENCIN- Senior night is always bittersweet for seniors, and the Lady Knights’ game against Souderton was no exception.
Prior to tip off, seniors Jena Auriema, Amy Check, Emily Hagan, Steph Knauer, and Brenda McDermott were recognized for their hard work they put into the team they put into the team for 3 or 4 years. They were escorted down the court by their parents before they were treated to a standing ovation by the fans in attendance.
“It’s awful [to be playing their last home game],” said Knauer. “But we are all moving on to bigger and better things.”
The seniors knew that they had to come out with a win this game to make the night more sweet than bitter, and once the game started they ensured they would leave with one.
The Lady Knights (10-3) took on rival Souderton (7-6), and while they started out a little sluggish, clinging to 27-25 lead at the half and having a hard time stopping the outside shot, they took over in the second half and came out on top 61-37.
‘It’s a pretty big deal [to beat a rival like Souderton],” said Check. “We beat them last time we played them at their house and it’s good to come out and put the nail in the coffin and get the win.”
With the win, the Lady Knights knocked Souderton out of playoff contention.
“It’s a very big deal for us. We knew we had to beat them to knock them out of the playoffs so it’s good for us,” said Knauer.
After the win, the girls celebrated by taking many pictures and enjoying some food prepared especially for the seniors. The seniors are in agreement about which is the top moment in their careers here at North Penn.
“Making it to states my sophomore year, it was a big deal,” said Knauer.
“Hopefully we can get it done this year,” adds Check.
The Lady Knights will round out the regular season on Thursday night at Hatboro Horsham and will then await their seeding for the upcoming district one playoffs.
