Super Bowl Not so Super for Philly Fans

Super Bowl Not so Super for Philly Fans

With the Super Bowl right around the corner, people all over the country are starting to get ready for the biggest day in all of sports. People are starting to flock to grocery and sporting good stores in preparation for the game. The Super Bowl is supposed to be a great day for sports fans everywhere. However, people in the Philadelphia area are still cringing over the fact that they will be forced to watch the New England Patriots take on the hated New York Giants.

Eagles fans know that they could very well be playing next Sunday had they won just one more game, a game they should have won. They had their fair share of chances this year; games such as San Francisco, Arizona, and Buffalo are a few they should have won. And now their division rival is playing for their second championship in five years.

Philadelphia fans were forced to endure the same two teams battle for a championship in 2007. But that game was different with much more than a championship on the line. Back then the Patriots were seeking to become the first 19-0 team in the history of the NFL. You either wanted them to do it or you did not. This year, with no more than a Super Bowl that both teams have won, the game will be no where as exciting.

While Eagles fans are sure they will not root for the Giants, many, do not want to root for the Patriots either. In the past ten years, only three teams have represented the AFC in the Super Bowl-  the Colts, the Steelers, and the Patriots. Nine teams have been represented in the NFC. I think I can speak for many people when I say that I am tired of seeing these teams dominate the AFC. The AFC needs variety. We need change.

Not only is the game bad, but the halftime performance this year has the potential to be one of the worst in recent memory. Madonna, who may have been good in her heyday, is about twenty years past her prime. Not many people want to see a fifty year old lady who thinks she is twenty dancing provocatively on the stage in front of millions of people.

The only thing to look forward to this year are the commercials. If the commercials are anything less than stellar, this year’s Super Bowl will be a complete dud. On Super Bowl Sunday, many Philadelphia fans will watch the game in disgust, simply thinking to themselves, as they do every year, maybe next year Philadelphia. Maybe next year.
