TOWAMENCIN – Athletic success comes routinely to North Penn High School, but for Knights swimmer Jason Deana, his college choice stands out.
Before the start of swimming season, Deana accepted a partial scholarship to North Carolina State University. N.C. State is part of the prestigious Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) and has established itself as a National athletic power.
Deana has proven himself as an elite swimmer at North Penn High School, taking number five on the all time list for the 50 yard freestyle and number 6 in the 100 yard freestyle.
Deana is undoubtedly one of the top swimmers for the Knights but expressed some of the differences that will come when he gets to the college level.
“I am used to being one of the faster swimmers on the high school team, but once I start swimming at N.C. state, I will fall more in the middle of the team and will have to work extremely hard to get near the top” said Deana.
The N.C. State Wolfpack were not Deana’s only option.
“I narrowed it down to N.C. State and Virginia Tech. Other potential choices were Pitt, Delaware, West Chester, East Carolina, Kenyon College, and West Virginia” explained Deana.
Despite all the potential options, his reasons for choosing the Wolfpack were very simple, “I chose it because I really got along with the team on my recruiting trip. It has a beautiful campus, the academics offered exactly what I am looking for, and their swim team is very competitive on the national level” said Deana.
North Penn High School has a rich legacy of athletic success but It is always special to see a Knight or Maiden take his or her talents to a top level division one program like N.C. State.
