LANSDALE – Last week North Penn named Mr. Kevin Manero the new head coach of the baseball program.
Mr. Manero, a well-known teacher at North Penn, is ecstatic about the opportunity. “I’m thrilled to death. I’m honored to be even considered for the position, let alone named to the position,” says Manero.
The position needed to be filled after Mr. McCreary decided to step down after holding the position of head coach for thirteen years, and Manero looked to be one of the top candidates for the job.
“Bob McCreary has run a tremendous program here for the last thirteen years. It’s very good knowing I’m coming into a program that is already run so well and has set such a high standard,” says Manero.
Manero is a more than suitable choice for the job. Having played on the team himself during his time at North Penn, upon his return to the school he began coaching for the team under McCreary.
“I think he calmed me down. Mr McCreary is a really calm guy. I tend to be a little bit more of a short tempered, hot headed kind of guy. But he taught, by example, to be a little bit more even keeled. So I think that’s really added a lot to what I can bring to the table as a coach,” says Manero.
However, Mr. Manero has not only been involved with the North Penn baseball program over the years. He has also been the head coach of the American Legion Nor-Gwyn Hawks for nine years. Under his leadership the team has won four Bux-Mont Regular Season League Championships, three Bux-Mont Tournament Championships, and a PA State Championship in 2005. The coaching position has certainly given Manero experience and qualifications needed to coach a high school team at North Penn’s level.
Obviously as a coach, he wants his team to perform well, but Manero also brings huge amounts of respect for the game to the table.
Manero is looking “to play the game the right way- proper fundamentals, respecting the game. And hopefully those things leading to the result.”
With baseball season rapidly approaching, Manero is already working with the team off-season to ensure a fantastic 2012 season.
