TOWAMENCIN – In what at times seemed like an emotional night for many seniors on the North Penn Maiden’s varsity volleyball team, the Maidens took home the win in 3 sets over Quakertown Tuesday night, also senior night.
“It’s really weird and sad at the same time, but I’m enjoying it so far,” said senior captain Kendra Allen.
In their final games of the regular season, the Maidens were looking to finish out strong. They showed that drive to finish strong with wins in three straight sets to finish off Quakertown.
But the night was more devoted to the seniors and honoring all their hard-work throughout the years, a time when the feeling is “bittersweet” for many players on the team.
“I’m really happy, but I’m also really sad,” said senior Meg Gallagher. “I’m happy that it’s been such a great experience, and I couldn’t have asked for a better time playing volleyball here. But I’m also really sad because I’m going to miss everyone and all the girls.”
Head coach Brian Yost also has mixed emotions about the night.
“It has been fantastic,” said Yost. “Six seniors, just about all of them played since they were freshmen. It’s been a lot of fun. It’s only my second year as head coach, but I got to work with them all the way up. It’s been a good time.”
Throughout their four years on the team, the team has developed many memories; too many to pick out on particular time.
“I have so many memories, that I don’t know [what my favorite is]. Nothing stands out to me right now,” said Allen.
Gallagher feels certain games are her best memory on the time.
“The games where we play just totally out of our element and better than ever before [are my favorite memories]. I can’t remember a specific game, but a couple times a season we’ll have a phenomenal game. It’s incredibly fun and its so hard to explain with words,” said Gallagher.
Yost is going to miss his players and had one final bit of advice for the outgoing seniors:
“Just keep having fun in everything [you] do. Don’t take life too seriously.”
The Maidens will not get back to business as they round out their regular season.
