TOWAMENCIN- The screams of the word GOOOOOOOOAAAAL, rang throughout the turf field twice last night as the boys soccer team beat Quakertown 2-0 on a spectacular senior night.
After a quiet first couple minutes senior Conor Kennedy scored a pivotal goal late in the first half. After the goal the Quakertown boys were not seen even near the North Penn goal guarded by senior captain Dylan Eiger.
Eiger who didn’t let up a goal in the entire first half, played an important part in the Knights late night win.
Senior Mike McCullough booted the ball down the field several times setting up attempts by almost every senior on the team.
Goals and score aside, last night was the boys’ senior night and was an opportunity to see every senior honored and commended for their commitment to the North Penn soccer program.
“It’s a lot of fun having your parents walk out with you and hearing your name over the loud speaker; it meant a lot to every senior on the team” Senior Drew Lightfoot said.
Throughout the game the Knights had tight footwork, but Senior Drew Lightfoot had the lightest feet of them all skillfully dribbling the ball through defenders.
Thanks to precise ball handling and accurate boots by Mike McCullough almost the entire second half was played on Quakertown’s half.
With fans screaming and the rain falling, on a night dedicated to seniors it was Junior Matt Robinson who scored the goal that sealed the victory for the knights.
The Knights are one point back in the race for the continental league title, right behind CB East.
“The points were vital in the league and the game meant a lot to us as a team,” senior captain Matt Ross said.
With an 8-2-2 record the Knights are on pace to have a deep playoff run, and with continued success against upcoming opponents such as Holy Ghost, they could be one of the top seeds in the district playoffs.
Look forward to a rematch against the league rival Souderton this Saturday at 11:00. Earlier in the season the Knights tied Souderton 1-1.
“We’re just gonna have to keep our work rate up and finish on our scoring opportunities to beat them” Senior captain Ross said
