Had Abraham Lincoln been a fan of volleyball, perhaps the Gettysburg Address would have read “four sets and seven bumps ago.” He certainty could not have found fault with the effort the North Penn girls volleyball team showed in their Dig Pink game vs. Methacton.
A close game throughout, North Penn lost the match 3 – 2. “Every game was very intense,” said senior caption, Kendra Allen. North Penn took the lead after winning the first game 25-15, and the third game 25-22. However, after Methacton tied the match by winning the fourth game by a slim margin of 26-24, they were able to maintain the game’s momentum and come out on top in the fifth game.
“We’ve got to work at some things at the net, blocking,” stated Coach Yoast, “Tonight I think our focus was just a little off. We’ve had back to back tournaments so they’re a little beat up, a little tired.”
However, the lose pales in comparison to the girls impressive results from the season thus far.
“Were undefeated in our conference. We won two tournaments. Tonight at Dig Pink, that was our first big upset against Methacton,” said senior Juliana Collins.
Despite the disappointing result, the fan turnout for the game was fantastic. Students turned out to cheer on the Maidens and made some noise. Back and forth chants echoed around the girls gym from not only the North Penn fans, but Methacton’s too.
“The North Penn fans are amazing. The energy in here was so great,” stated Collins.
The Maidens return to the court looking to maintain their unbeaten conference mark as they travel to CB West Thursday night.
