In what seemed like a tougher battle against the rain and mud than their actual opponent, North Penn put themselves over the .500 mark for the first time this season.
The North Penn Knight’s football team is starting to look like their old selves again after they cruised to a 35-0 victory over Central Bucks East.
“It’s definitely good; 1-2 is not how you want to start, so two in a row is a big morale boost to the team,” said senior quarterback Corey Ernst.
Ernst looked calm and patient on the field throughout the game and completed 16 of 24 passes for 193 and 3 touchdowns.
Senior James Fielder and junior Kyle Mayfield both had big games rushing for the Knights; Fielder had 70 yards on the ground while Mayfield had 140 yards for two touchdowns. Fielder also had 40 yards receiving with a touchdown catch.
Mayfield and Fielder had several big gains on the ground including a 45 yard touchdown run by Mayfield that broke open the game in the 2nd quarter.
“It pumped us up, got us going,” said Fielder.
On the other side of the football, the Knight’s defense looked just as impressive as the offense.
Kris Akins had an interception on the first play of the game for CB East. The defense also stopped several 4th down conversions attempted by CB East including a goal line stand in the first quarter that started inside the Knights 5 yard line.
“The defense did a great job and those stops put the offense on the field to get the job done,” said Ernst.
North Penn head coach Dick Beck seemed pleased with the win but stayed relatively modest about being over .500.
“I don’t care [about being over .500]. It feels good to win. Any win is a good win,” said Beck.
“Satisfied. We came out like we needed to and got better,” said Fielder when asked about the team and his performance
North Penn will look to make it three in a row as they host CB West on Thursday night.
“Going on a short week, we won’t do too much adjustment wise and [will] use a similar game plan,” said Beck on how he will prepare his team for CB West next week.
If North Penn wins next week, it may be the final boost the Knights need to be back in the hunt for that coveted state title.
