The North Penn High School girl’s tennis team has started out strong this season, winning three out of four league matches.
Last Tuesday, the girl’s varsity tennis team had a tough loss, 4-3 to Central Bucks West. Singles players Stacy Chang (first singles), Maggie Graff (second singles), and Danielle Maier (third singles) won their matches, while all doubles teams lost.
“We all have been working really hard this season, and it was disappointing to lose this last match,” said captain Danielle Maier.
However, Friday’s match with Quakertown brought another win for both JV and Varsity. Singles player, Stacy Chang, won 6-0 6-1; second singles player, Maggie Graff, won 6-0 6-3; and third singles player, Danielle Maier, won 6-0 6-1.
Varsity first doubles pair Caroline Henson and Sweatha Nuthalaganti won 6-0 6-1; second doubles Jenna Caffarello and Peggy Branson won 6-1 6-1; third doubles Kate Shuman and Emily Patterson won 6-0 6-1; fourth doubles Marisa Wherry and Isabelle Thorus won 6-0 6-1; and fifth doubles Amanda Thorus won 8-0.
This year the girl’s tennis team has also developed a strong unity and cohesion that has been central in leading them to victory.
“On varsity this year there’s more girls that have moved up from JV, so it has bee fun getting to work with new people and build a stronger team” Maier said.
Following their victory from Friday, the team’sfaces CB West as they look to continue building in that positive direction.
