PHILADELPHIA – Nestled in the center of the thriving arts section of Philadelphia, the University of the Arts offers fantastic programs to a wide array of art forms. With majors ranging from dance to fine arts, a student wishing to succeed in any kind of artistic expression will flourish at the university.

More specifically, the university offers majors under these areas: art, film, design, dance, music, and theater.  Most of these programs require a portfolio of artwork or film projects or an audition to be considered for the college. As a school of little more than 1,900 students, talent and projected success based on creative submissions play a huge factor in acceptance.

While the forms of art are very different, the admissions counselors assure that similar disciplines are taught to most students so there is a feeling of interconnectedness between the students. There is also an advising center available to aid the students in choosing courses and which direction to go with their passion.

Having recently launched a new honors program a few years ago, the university seems pleased with the work that has come out of hard-working students. The honors scholars are required to do a set amount of community service hours while maintaining a 3.75 GPA. Perks include a wider array of internship opportunities and extra courses designed for honors level students.

On a different note, the dorms available to students are particularly unconventional. Because they are renovated apartment buildings, every room is outfitted with a bedroom for two, a living room, kitchen with a stove and fridge, and a bathroom – communal bathrooms are nonexistent at UArts. Since every room has its own kitchen, most students usually would either cook from home or take advantage of the varied options along the streets of Philadelphia. However, more students are committing to the university meal plan put in effect just one year ago. Options range from nineteen meals per week to five.

Although the campus feel is lost among the busy Philadelphia streets, the University of the Arts provides an exceptional foundation with which rising artists can use to succeed in exceedingly uncertain fields.
