CUMBERLAND VALLEY-Shippensburg University was established in 1871 as the Cumberland Valley State Normal School. Ship is a member of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education. The University offers a variety of undergraduate and graduate degree programs. It is located in Cumberland Valley which is 40 miles southwest of Harrisburg and around 143 miles from here.
Shippensburg is a medium sized school with about 7,132 undergraduates. Ship also has 5 year master programs available to some majors. The campus has unique facilities such as: a vertebrate museum, herbarium, planetarium, NMR spectrometer, electron microscope, fashion archives, women’s center, performing arts center, an interfaith spiritual center and an elementary school grades K-5.
In athletics, Ship is ranked as a division two school. It has nineteen sports options from club to divisional. This allows for a variety of different choices to pick from. With a newly built recreational center you can have fun playing on the basketball courts or run around the track above the courts. Shippensburg also has a gym to work out on cardio machines or lift weights as you look down onto the Raider Football field and track. Along with the new rec center they are also in the process of building new dorm rooms that will have air conditioning as well as a bathroom that you only have to share with your roommate.
The traditional dorms have 2-person shared suites with bathroom for an estimated cost of $3,605 per year. There are also 3 different suite options. The first option includes a two-person private suite with sitting area and bathroom for an estimated cost $4,017 per year. The second option includes a four- person shared suite with living room, dining space, kitchenette, and 2 bathrooms for an estimated cost of $3,914 year. The third option includes a two-person private suite with living room, dining space, kitchenette and bathroom for estimated cost of $4,429 per year.
