Overlooking the Potomac River is the gem of Washington D.C. – Georgetown University. One of the most prestigious schools in the nation and neighboring the White House, the Capitol building, and many other historic sites, Georgetown University is the oldest Jesuit university in the United States.
Sharing the same birth year as our Constitution, the university itself has a rich history that goes hand-in-hand with that of our country. During the Civil War, not only were many of the students enlisted in both the Union and Confederate side, but troops were also temporarily quartered in the school and school buildings used as a hospital. After the Civil War, the school adapted blue, the Union’s uniform color, and grey, the Confederate’s, as the official school color in honor of the unification of the country.
The campus itself is breathtakingly beautiful. The medium sized campus contains buildings within walking distance. Georgetown University has eight different schools on campus, providing students of each school with a close-knit community feel while still the experience of being a part of a bigger university. Georgetown College, McDonough School of Business, Walsh School of Foreign Service, and School of Nursing & Health Studies are available for undergraduate students. Graduate schools include the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, Law Center, School of Medicine, School of Continuing Studies, and School of Nursing & Health Studies. There is also a teaching hospital on campus, the MedStar Georgetown University Hospital.
The tuition at Georgetown can be quite expensive, starting about before financial aid at $42,870 for both in-state and out-of-state students; however, the university does offer generous scholarships and grants. For more information regarding financial aid and grants, click here and here.
