West Virginia has a long tradition of success in athletics. WVU is a division one school in its sports. As of this year, the Mountaineers football team is now in the Big XII Conference, playing challenging teams across the country. The football games bring out the pride of the school. Every student gets geared up from head to toe in their blue and gold. As another major traditions goes, every home football game the crowds gathers as the Mountaineers escorted by the marching band participate in the “man walk” (as they call it) on their way to the stadium. You can really feel that atmosphere of support by the fans of all ages.
Basketball is another key sport at WVU; they have won numerous championships. They are a part of the Big 12 Conference and made it into the Final Four of the 2010 NCAA Men’s Division I Basketball Tournament. In 2010 they were Big East Conference champions.
