LANSDALE – The Pennsylvania School Boards Association (PSBA) recently awarded Master School Board Member accreditation to Vincent Sherpinsky, President of the North Penn School District Board of School Directors.
PSBA honored a select group of five school board directors across Pennsylvania. This recognition is both for school boards and individual members who have demonstrated exceptional accomplishments in attaining the goals of effective governance and meeting the needs of students for the 21st century through educational excellence and equity of all students.
This is the fourth year PSBA has awarded such accreditation to members. Sherpinsky was selected based on his board service, community engagement, advocacy and teamwork skills. The final selections were made anonymously by a panel of past presidents of PSBA, and the winners were announced at the PASA-PSBA School Leadership Conference in Hershey on October 19th.
The ultimate goal of public education is to provide opportunities for learning, growth and achievement for all students. Effective school governance is essential for attaining this goal as well as promoting the community’s trust in public education and ensuring responsible stewardship of resources. In fact, how well schools and students achieve is inextricably linked to how well schools are governed.
“The continuation of this accreditation program is just another way PSBA hopes to elevate the importance of effective school governance for the benefit of student achievement,” said Thomas J. Gentzel, PSBA executive director.
Sherpinsky, the parent of three North Penn High School graduates, was first elected to the School Board in November 1997. Since that time, he has served on various committees and in multiple leadership positions. He has had major roles in labor contract negotiations, NPSD’s long-term investment practices, the maintenance of the facilities master plan and the school district’s safe schools initiatives.
PSBA is a nonprofit statewide association of public school boards, pledged to the highest ideals of local lay leadership for the public schools of the commonwealth. Founded in 1895, PSBA was the first school boards association established in the United States.
