Veganism: A Life Changing Choice for Junior, Cory Taylor

Veganism: A Life Changing Choice for Junior, Cory Taylor

North Penn junior and thespian Cory Taylor informs us of his very interesting choice to become a full-fledged vegan. The official definition of a vegan is a “vegetarian who omits all animal products from the diet.” This includes anything product that comes from an animal (even clothes).

This may seem difficult for the common person but as Taylor describes it, it is merely a lifestyle. When first becoming a vegan in ninth grade, Taylor wasn’t unfamiliar with excluding other foods in his diet.

Taylor was an active vegetarian before becoming a vegan. The option of veganism was introduced to him through his youth group. To him, veganism seemed more “ethical” than being a vegetarian and ever since then, Taylor has committed himself to the lifestyle.

Cory is dedicated to keeping everything he eats and wears absolutely vegan. His only exception, he says is honey because “there is no direct harm to the bees.”

Although being a vegan is beneficial to a person’s health as well as helping a great cause, veganism does have some setbacks that Taylor explained. For example, it is a little difficult to eat out for Taylor because the most common restaurant around Lansdale is either an Applebee’s or a Friendly’s, two restaurants that don’t offer many vegan choices. But Taylor still goes out, eating just an appetizer and then waiting until later to eat one of his own vegan meals at home. Taylor also explores other places to find great vegan restaurants. His favorite one, he says is a vegan pizzeria in Philly, where “everything on the menu is delicious.”

If you were to stroll down the organic isle of Giant, you would notice that most of the most basic items like vegan milk or vegan cheese are more expensive than the regular brands. The expense of veganism has had an effect on Taylor’s life but Taylor fortunately has an accepting family that budgets in the food Taylor can eat.

Veganism has truly been a great form of expression for Taylor and his words of advice to aspiring vegans is “research before and don’t throw yourself into it”.
