The head of the brand-new Department of Government Efficiency, Elon Musk, has already made a name for himself. From the day Donald Trump was elected to be the 47th president of the United States to the inauguration, Musk has made some questionable choices.
At the inauguration, Musk aggressively did what resembled an infamous gesture that was made famous during WWII. Some believe it was the Roman salute, but let’s be real, it was sieg hail. Viewers of the ceremony were shocked as Musk made the gesture not once, not twice, but three times on national television.
Besides that, he has also already gotten to work as the head of the brand-new Department of Government Efficiency. In late December, Musk posted more than 100 times on X disagreeing with the bipartisan funding proposal that would have prevented a government shutdown. Much of these claims were misinformation and baseless claims.
The 1547 page document was bullied out of contention by Musk who made false claims about congressional salaries, federal funding and public health preparedness. This social media bullying proposes the danger of Musk being able to control congress by simple posts.
Trump has already been sued by the National Security Counselors due to the actions of D.O.G.E. The suit is because of the claim that the brand-new department of government efficiency is a federal advisory committee. This would mean that the Federal Advisory Committee Act would be set into motion.
The FACA is a law that is in place to regulate federal advisory committees and keep them transparent. The lawsuit filed against the Department claims that the committee “needs to be fairly balanced in terms of the points of view represented and the functions to be performed by the advisory committee.”
Lastly, the head of the Department, Elon Musk, believes that D.O.G.E should “defund the Sierry Club.” The problem with this statement is that the Sierra Club is an interest group that is not funded by the U.S. government. The pro-climate group gets its funding from large donations and individual donors across the country. So, there is no way for D.O.G.E to defund the Sierra Club.
So as the next four years progresses and we get to see more of D.O.G.E and Elon Musk, you can expect more baseless claims and billionaire-run government.
