What’s worse than being added to a group chat and the first text is green because someone has an android?a Now only a certain number of people can be added. Any picture or video that’s sent through will be grainy. Messages will come through slower and you’ll see the annoying messages like, “John Doe loved an image.” But is any of this truly the fault of any android user? 

It seems as though the entire world revolves around technology, so how is it fair that in the cell phone world, everything revolves around Apple products. There is a barrier between android and Apple products in the way of connecting with the world, but also often a negative stereotype towards those that own an android. Many people who own an Iphone believe that they are better because of that, but really both Apple and Android are good, there just needs to be a better connection between the two. With so many new products every year and updates, it’s hard for other brands to even compete with Apple. Instead of users having to change anything, the companies should be working to form a better technological connection between android and Apple devices. 

“It works as a normal phone, that’s the biggest thing. Pretty much everything an Iphone can do, so can an android. The camera is unbelievable,” explained North Penn senior Josh Garrett, android phone owner. 

Apple and android products all have the same functions; texting, calling, a camera, games, and other applications. Being able to communicate with others through a cell phone is an important thing now and especially the first few years during and following the pandemic. It shouldn’t matter whether the communication happens between an Apple and Apple product, or android and android, or Apple and android. 

“I don’t think it should be one or the other [Apple or Android]. I think the world heavily favors Apple products right now, but slowly is beginning to change. It’s coming more to an even split and each company is trying to adapt to better suit each other. But right now the world still heavily favors Apple products,” reflected Garrett. 

Even those who own Apple products can see that androids often have an unfair disadvantage in the world. Someone’s ability to do daily things should be affected by whether or not they have an android or Apple product. 

“You see things like Apple Pay all over that someone with an android doesn’t have the same accessibility for,” said North Penn Senior Ally Dahms, Apple Iphone owner. 

And while many people may argue that Apple products are better for communication, others may argue that androids are better for pictures. Whichever side is true, shouldn’t matter, as anyone should have whichever phone they like. 

“Facetime is a big part of the reason I have an Iphone. I love being able to see family even when we aren’t together,” explained Dahms. 

So while yes, it may be annoying to receive a green message every now and then, it is much more annoying for those that cannot communicate effectively with the rest of the world due to the technology disconnect. With many people who rely on facetime and text to communicate with their families, these companies need to better adapt to each other to make this possible. So next time you think of judging someone with an android, instead judge the companies that aren’t making products for an inclusive society.
