How much are you willing to spend for prom? Prom is the night people most look forward to senior year of high school. Some people have dreamed about it since they were younger, dressing up, hanging out, and dancing with their friends, hoping it will be a night to Even movies have been made about making that night the best thing ever. Older family members have shared their memories and told stories, but no one ever mentions the costs that prom involves.
Between the price of the prom tickets, the limo, the tuxedo rental, the dress, the nails, the hair, and anything else desired for that one night, it all adds up quickly. Articles have published that the average cost for prom, nowadays, can be around $1,000+. “The survey shows that money spent varies by region. People in the Northeast are spending the most on average – about $2,000 per family – while those in the Midwest are spending the least at $700.”—CNN (School of Thought) Is the price really worth it for only a few short hours? Will spending that money make your experience that much more enjoyable? It’s a strongly debatable subject. To some, spending that money isn’t a big deal and that may even spend more than the average, but others think that’s silly.
To me, spending a ridiculous amount of money on prom seems unnecessary. There are plenty of ways of reducing the cost; you just have to put some thought into it. I understand that it’s your senior prom, but it is only your senior prom. There is no need to fret and get caught up in “prama” over an event that lasts a few short hours. Prom is about the memories you make and the good times you have with your friends before you have to say goodbye and head off to college.
Thirty years from now, are you really going to care who wore what or how your hair looked? probably not. You will probably remember the people you were with and the fun you had. So honestly, does it matter if someone has the same dress as you? Although I understand and respect the fact that some people may be unhappy if someone else has their dress because of the effort that went into looking for that perfect dress, t it is not the end of the world and it’s bound to happen with as many kids that go to this school. Look at it as if you both have good taste!
Throughout the years, prom has grown to be a monumental event that everyone feels must be perfect. Spending is not the only thing that can be taken to the extreme. The guys are outdoing themselves by coming up with these crazy productions in order to ask the girls. Call me crazy, but what happened to just walking up to them in the hallway and just asking?
Prom will be an enjoyable night no matter what has been done in preparation. It’s a time to appreciate and take in the last month of senior year. Only 4 days away!
