The Super Bowl has come and gone and now many people across the country are trying to burn all those calories that they gained that Sunday. Millions of people tuned into the New York Giant’s victory over the New England Patriots, but unless you are from New York or New England, this year’s Super Bowl may leave you with very little to remember, unless you are one of those people who set a new personal record for most food eaten in a day.
The game itself was not a bad game, but did not get good until late the fourth quarter. The first 55 minutes of the game were not very exciting, with very few touchdowns and sloppy offense. And with five minutes left in the game, Eli Manning did almost exactly what he did four years ago the last time he was in the Super Bowl: lead a nearly five minute drive from deep in his own territory only to score with 30 seconds remaining with an acrobatic catch that kept the drive going. It was almost like a rerun of a television show in that it was good the first time, but it just does not have the same effect the second time around. For many fans, especially Eagles and Jets fans, the game had already been enough to make them sick, and the outcome did not do anything to allay that sick feeling.
Millions of people were unenthused when they heard that Madonna would be the halftime show. She exceeded those expectations with a great performance, with guest appearances from artists like Nikki Minaj and Cee Lo Green. However, the entire performance was tainted due to the fact that the entire act was lip synched. And it was very noticeable to the millions who were watching. Had Madonna and the rest of her guests actually sung instead of lip synched, she may have been the highlight of the night.
For everybody who does not care too much about the game, there are always the commercials to look forward to. However, this year that was not too much to be happy about. There were very few commercials that were able to make people laugh. From the ones that did manage a chuckle or two, many people would agree that they have not been as impressive as years before. A fan favorite, the E-trade baby, disappointed this year as it failed to spur as many laughs as they have with commercials before. Even Doritos could not duplicate the funniness fans are used to seeing in their commercials. Overall the commercials were not very good. There a few funny ones, but not many.
Going into Sunday there was not much to look forward too about the Super Bowl. If you went into Sunday with low expectations, you were not surprised. This year’s Super Bowl had little excitement to it and disappointed many of viewers. The Super Bowl will always be one of the most watched programs of the year, but the NFL needs to re-examine
