Over the past two years at North Penn High School, a pep rally for the entire school preceded the Friday night homecoming game. This year the pep rally occurred but fell about 2000 students short.
North Penn previously allowed members of all classes to attend the rally. This year North Penn held the Pep rally in the gym for seniors only. As a senior, I would usually not oppose special treatment for the class of 2012. However, the past two pep rallies have created a sense of unity among all of the students and I believe that a pep rally of 3000 students in Crawford Stadium beats a pep rally of 1000 students in the gym.
Two years ago, I sat in my homeroom as a sophomore watching two seniors speak about how great this pep rally will be compared to previous years. They talked about how lame and boring it was to have a pep rally for seniors only. They expressed disapproval of having the underclassmen watching the rally on TV only. The announcement excited all sophomores as a chance to miss their eighth period for a pep rally. It created the possibility of a great tradition at North Penn that could include the entire school. With such a great tradition able to be put in place by North Penn, I am a little disappointed at the elimination of the school wide pep rally. For sophomores and juniors there will be no way to get excited from their ninth period room.
North Penn seniors gathered in the gym to get hyped up for the Friday night game against Souderton. However, there were many events in the pep rally that lost their luster if they were seen via telecast. The cheering battle between the white and blue side probably meant nothing to those sitting in their ninth period. Plus there it would be difficult to get excited about the throwing of T-shirts, when they have no chance to catch them
I thoroughly enjoyed the pep rally and being with the class of 2012, but in the back of my mind the thought of the juniors and sophomores sitting in ninth period was something I could not fully get past.

I agree, a pep rally done in Crawford would have been more enjoyable for all classes, an overall great experience. Regardless of the weather, the Friday night games are usually freezing anyways so i’m sure many of the fans would not have minded that. Hopefully next year it is done differently.
